Its cold outside (FINALLY)! The thought of exercising outdoors makes my teeth chatter and my body begins to shutter. I want and need the fresh air, but I just can’t motivate…
Sound familiar???
I love being outside, but with my low-thyroid disorder, the idea of playing outdoors for long- stretches of time is not ideal as my body gets cold rather quickly if I’m not properly dressed. But as I looked out my window and felt the sunshine on my face, I ran to my winter bin and began to pile on the thermal layers. I laced up my hiking boots and coerced my boyfriend to take an hour-long, uphill hike out our backdoor. It was cold initially, I was under dressed, so I ran back inside and grabbed more clothes.
We returned home smiling, invigorated, and thoroughly happy. We shared a challenging hike, along with some great scenery and connecting conversation. I vowed to make it a weekly outing. I encourage you to do the same…Grab a friend, your child, or your partner and get out of your comfort zone at least once a week. I know for myself, its the getting-there that’s the most difficult. Where the mind goes the body will follow. Instead of thinking about how cold it might be, focus your thoughts on how much better you will FEEL….and then GO!
